KDV THEME/ROYALTY/MUSIC. The Krewe du Vieux’s 2005
theme is “WWKdVD?” or “What Would Krewe du Vieux Do”, a satire on the “WWJD?”
or “What Would Jesus Do” ministry. Al
“Carnival Time” Johnson will reign over our annual stumble through the French
Quarter as this year’s royalty. You can
visit his web site at www.alcarnivaltimejohnson.com. And, he’s invited Antoinette K-Doe to make
an encore appearance as his Queen.
Music entertainment for 2005 has been confirmed! Eh, La Bas will open the show following the
parade, with Jon Cleary and the Absolute Monster Gentlemen as the headliner,
and Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes as the late night entertainment. The half time show promises to be uplifting!
D&D THEME/COSTUMES/FLOAT DECORATIONS: The
Krewe of Drips & Discharges decided on a theme at our October 13th
membership meeting. This year, the
Drips & Discharges are “PORN AGAIN”.
Costume ideas included nuns, priests, and lots of porn stars. The deadline for placing costume orders was Monday,
December 6, 2004 and YOUR ORDERS ARE IN. Those members who
have not picked up their costumes should contact Eileen at 833-6404 to make arrangements with
her to get your order. These costumes are NOT mandatory, as we
always encourage your individual creativity!
We’re still working on our float decorations and will be meeting at the
Den of Muses on weekends in January.
Special thanks to Ellis for putting together the float design; and for
his artistic talents in making it all cum together. Members are strongly encouraged (and we’re not beyond a little
begging too) to join us at the Den on weekends in January to PARTY, help with
our float decorations, making the signature Drips’ test tube throws, and offer
ideas and suggestions. We’d also like
to meet you before parade day so we’ll know what you look like when you’re not
wearing a costume!

PARADE. The 2005 Krewe du Vieux
parade is scheduled for Saturday, January 22, 2005. The parade rolls promptly at 7:00 pm, and is scheduled to line up
at the Den of Muses again this year.
Here’s the parade route:

SAFETY: Please review the Krewe du Vieux’s Safety Program - IT’S IMPORTANT - especially now that we’re getting a mule!
THROWS, VIDEOS & KDV SPORTSWEAR. Once again, the Drips & Discharges will provide our signature test tube throws for our members. Please try to limit the amount of throws you are bringing with you on parade day - ya really don't need that much stuff anyway, and we still have throws left over from last year. Beads are a pain in the neck - literally! SPECIAL THANKS to all you ole' Hippie type members who came out to share your rolling skills. They stuffed 3000 test tubes with our 2005 handout (see below) on January 9th. KdV parade videos are still available at $10.00/each for the 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 & 2004 parades. Both VHS and DVD formats are now available! Krewe du Vieux’s 2005 Sportswear orders are closed for the year. KdV commemorative cups and WWKdVD? bracelets orders are also closed. The deadline to order AND pay for KdV cups and wristbands was January 2, 2005. Contact Eileen to order KdV sportswear, video copies, cups, wristbands, and other paraphernalia.
2005 Drips & Discharges Handout

FLOAT REPAIRS/UPGRADES: The front axle on the float
has been permanently re-enforced to support the weight of a medically (or
mentally) handicapped member. Upgrades
are underway to the existing structure so we’ll have better use of storage
space for our throws. Hear ye, hear
ye! All you mechanical and construction
folks are welcome and encouraged to join in the fun! Contact Amelie (286-1080) or Nate (234-5917) if you would like to
help out.
DIRECTIONS
TO THE DEN OF MUSES. From Elysian Fields and the River, turn on Chartres Street (away
from the French Quarter). Go down
Chartres 4-5 blocks, one block past Feelings Cafe and Franklin Avenue (where it
makes a “V”) and turn left on Port. Go
one block and turn right on Architect.
(You can only turn right on Architect and it is only one block
long). The Den access is in the middle
of the block on the left. If you get
lost and need to call us, you can reach Amelie on her cell at 606-1080 or Nate
on his cell at 234-5917.
MEMBERSHIP DUES: MEMBERSHIP
TOPPED OUT AT 65 AND IS CLOSED FOR THE YEAR!
Membership opened to 2004 members ONLY at $95.00 each until
October 15, 2004. After October 15th,
membership was opened to past members until November 15, 2004, and then to new
“virgin” members after November 15th.
On December 1st, dues went up to $125.00 each. KdV has again adopted a “first come, first
serve” policy this year and will cut off membership when they get 900 paid
members. Questions about membership
should be directed to Pat at PAT'S
EMAIL or Bob at BOB'S EMAIL.
KREWE DU VIEUX BREWE DOO: The KdV Brewe Doo was a “fun
razor” held on Friday, October 1, 2004.
This year’s “DOO” was held at Tipitina’s Uptown from 8:00 pm til. Music entertainment was provided by Eric
Lindell. Ten of our 17 Sub-krewes
participated by brewing their own “home grown” brewes. For a flat rate entry fee of $10.00, you got
to drink all the home brewe you could stand – until it ran out. The Drips & Discharges’ theme was “Tubing
while Intoxicated”. Sebastian
volunteered to be our ‘Brewemeister’ again, and WON 1ST PLACE for
his masterpiece: “Pee in the River” – WHICH MEANS the Drips get to be first in
the parade lineup this year!
Traditionally a theme party, costumes were strongly encouraged and
included “beach attire”, straw hats, flip flops, tubes, etc. The Drips issued “Citations” from the
Department of Wildlife & Festivities to anyone found to be intoxicated
during the evening, and provided party favors, which included balloon tubes,
and “tubing essentials” in plastic zip lock bags! We also raised about $80 to help pay for this year’s mule by
selling our signature, fruit filled jell-o shots. Pictures are available via our Photo Gallery (above). Thanks to all who showed up to show their
support!
KREWE DU VIEUX FALL FUNRAISER: The
Krewe du Vieux Fall Funraiser was scheduled for Saturday, December 4, 2004,
from 9:00 pm until . . . One Eyed
Jack’s (615 Toulouse Street) is the place to be! Thanks to all the Drips who stopped in to show their
support. Tickets were $10 at the
door. Twangorama, L’il Queenie and the
Bonerama Horns provided the music entertainment – IT WAS AN AWESOME SHOW!!! All in all, it promised and WAS a real
“Bangorama”, and costumes (as always) were strongly encouraged.

PRE PARADE PARTY: The KdV Pre Parade Party and
set up will be held at the State Palace Theater on Friday, January 21, 2005
from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Beer, soft drinks
and sandwiches will be provided. This
is the time to bring in your “party favors” for the KdV DOO following the
parade, including hard liquor, SMALL coolers, changes of clothes/shoes,
disposable cameras, or anything else you’d like to have with you and don’t want
to haul along the parade route. We also
need to stake out our spot (AS CLOSE TO THE BAR AS POSSIBLE) for Saturday
night, and hang our banner! Last minute
DOO tickets for friends and cohorts can also be purchased at this event. NO LARGE ICE CHESTS ARE ALLOWED AND
VALUABLES ARE STRONGLY DISCOURAGED! If
you can’t live without it – DON’T BRING IT!
PARADE DAY EVENTS: Make arrangements before 2:00
pm on parade day to 1) get your throws on the float at the Den of Muses (either
Friday night or Saturday morning), and 2) park your cars near the State Palace
Theater, or wherever you’ll want to retrieve them that night after the DOO. The Drips & Discharges will gather
together for a pre-parade and make up/costume decorating party from 2:00 pm
until 4:00 pm at Jennifer Lindsley’s “ACME” Art Gallery located at 5700
Magazine Street (right next to Whole Foods Grocery). Limited parking is available, but you are strongly encouraged to
catch a ride. Bring refreshments! Party foods, sandwich trays, covered dishes,
snacks and drinks (coolers and ice will be provided). Disposable dishes are recommended. At 4:00 pm, we’ve chartered a school bus to pick us up @ Acme
Jen’s and take us all down to the parade line up. If you haven’t made this ride before, you’ve missed a really
great time - so please plan on it this year.
THERE IS NO PARKING AVAILABLE AT THE DEN OF MUSES ON PARADE DAY, SO
DON’T EVEN TRY! (The last member
who did had her car run over by a mule.)
Member’s wristbands will be distributed at the parade lineup, which
you’ll need to be wearing to participate in the parade, AND get into the KdV
DOO afterwards.
KREWE DU VIEUX DOO: The KdV DOO will be held at
the State Palace Theater immediately following the parade. Members will enter through the Rampart
Street entrance. You’ll need to be WEARING
your wristband (which you’ll get at the parade lineup) to get into the State
Palace Theater and get free drinks (beer, soft drinks, juices, set ups) – NO
EXCEPTIONS. Proceed upstairs to the
designated Krewe area and our Drips & Discharges section (as close to the
bar as we can possibly get). The free
drinks are available at the designated member area bars only, but food and mixed
drinks are available for purchase in public areas at the State Palace Theater.
DOO TICKETS. Your membership covers your
entry to the Krewe du Vieux DOO following the parade. Tickets are $20.00 each and are required for friends and cohorts
who wish to attend. Please note,
ticketed guests are NOT permitted in the upstairs KdV Members only section at
the State Palace Theater.
